| "We provide workforce services that promote maximum employment to enhance the economic stability of Virginia." |
– The VEC Mission |
When you've recently become unemployed, you have many questions about qualifying for and receiving benefits. The Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) is pleased to provide you with easy access to information about job opportunities and the labor market in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The VEC provides many services including veteran’s employment, labor market information and job seeking services through Virginia's Automated Labor Exchange system (ALEX).
All of the resources of the VEC are available to assist in veteran job referral and placement. Local Veterans Employment Representatives (LVERs) and Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) staff are available in most VEC offices to offer preference to veterans in employment services. The VEC offices provide many services to veterans including veterans’ news, information about regulations and laws, and additional referral and transition services.
Virginia’s Electronic Labor Market Access System allows you to review information from the 2000 census, gather information on the status of different industries in the area and find out what the demand and average salaries are for various positions.
ALEX (Automated Labor Exchange System) offers job seekers several options for a self-directed job search. You can customize your search to specific Virginia cities, counties, and a national job search by state, military specialty, government jobs, and other national sites for jobs and employment information. You can use this service at any VEC field office or online.
